Bethany Beyond the Jordan

Start your tour south at the site where Jesus was baptized:  Bethany Beyond the Jordan.   It was here that John the Baptist lived and preached.   Walk the path to the Jordan River and see the site where Jesus was baptized.  Spend your morning walking the trails to the Jordan River.  Or, on the hour, a shuttle service is available to the Jordan River.

Mt.Nebo

Next  journey north to Mt. Nebo, the place where Moses viewed the Holy land of Canaan and is believed to be buried.  Mt. Nebo’s church was built in the late 4th century. Mt. Nebo is considered to be the holiest site in Jordan and a place of pilgrimage for early Christians.  The Serpentine Cross which stands just outside the sanctuary is symbolic of the brass serpent taken by Moses into the desert and the cross upon which Jesus was crucified.   From Mt. Nebo, you will be able to view the Dead Sea and the surrounding areas.  The area is believed to be the home to 5 Biblical cities:  Sodom, Gomorrah, Adman, Zebouin and Zoar
.

Madaba

Your final stop, Madaba mentioned in the Bible at the time of Exodus 1200BC.  Today, Madaba is known as the City of Mosaics . In Madaba, you will be visiting the St. George Church famed for its 6th century Byzantine mosaic map, featuring ‘The Map of the Holy land ’.  A visit to The Mosaic Factory where handmade mosaics are made and sold is always a fun stop. The Factory also features other great finds:  Dead Sea products, religious artifacts, and other Jordanian souvenirs.

We hope that you enjoyed The Religious Tour.
