Petra Tour
Voted worldwide by over 100 million people, Petra, a Wonder of the World and an UNESCO World Heritage site, is Jordan’s Treasure.
Petra is a vast and unique city which was carved into the sheer rock face by the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab Civilization who settled in the Region more than 2000 years ago. The Nabataeans were nomadic Arab people from Arabia who began to arrive and settle into the city. By the 2nd century BC, Petra had become a bustling city center and was the capital of the Nabataean Kingdom.
Petra is located 3 hours south of Amman in the area known as Wadi Musa, The Valley of Moses.
As you approach the entrance to Petra, your driver will arrange your entrance tickets and any other information you shall need to make your journey into Petra a memorable one. A multi-lingual local guide and a horse and carriage are available for hire, just ask your driver for assistance.
Petra’s most famous monument, The Treasury, appears as you end the 45 minute Siq or Trail, a comfortable and scenic walk. The towering façade of the Treasury is only one of the many sites to explore while in Petra.
We recommend that you relax and take your photos around the entrance of the Treasury prior to your walk towards the 3000 seat Roman-like Theater from the early 1st century AD. En route, you can climb, hike, and observe the rock cut tombs and temple facades.
Continue further down past an open area and you will come across a restaurant and a restroom complex, on your right-hand side. The Petra Archaeological Museum is located in the complex where you will find artifacts from the Nabataean era.
There are several vendors and rest areas for souvenirs and snacks, serving both hot and cold beverages. All these outlets are owned and operated by the local Bedouins.
By this time, you have covered the highlights of Petra. We suggest that you head back towards the entrance to meet your driver to take you to one of Petra’s restaurants and your journey back to Amman.
Prior to leaving Wadi Musa, your driver will stop at Uyun Musa, (Moses’ springs) where Moses is believed to have struck a rock with his staff and 12 springs emerged.
We hope that you enjoyed Petra.
